The Christmas Spirit of Newport

 

The weeks since Thanksgiving have been a blur.  I felt as though the last two weeks were wasted planning all the things I need to get done before Christmas, rather than actually executing them…which is frustrating.  But finally this week I feel as though I have been chipping away at the list, and stuff is starting to get done around here.  Although I still have Christmas garlands to put up, a dog to get, a party to help put together, and a ten page detailed list of all my Christmas blog and IG posts to do…I’m freaking out a little bit.

New England Travel Guide: Manchester, VT

 

This autumn has been a bit strange…two years ago we had the most brilliant colors everywhere, last year was very dull, and the leaves fell pretty quickly.  This year I saw trees starting to turn in early/mid August, yet we still have green trees everywhere in our backyard (usually just about all the leaves have fallen by this time).  And if I drive straight across the state, every town is in a different stage of fall.

Nantucketing

 

I live in the backwoods of New Hampshire…30 minutes from a grocery store, Starbucks, or Target.  There are no sirens, no traffic noise…all that can be heard from our deck is the sound of birds, wind in the trees, and the stream in the woods behind our house.  It is peaceful place to live, and I think it has rubbed off on me, as I find that more and more I want to vacation in places even more remote!

Orchards and Early Fall in Exeter, NH

 

I always love discovering new places in my own state, and it was a whole heap of fun being able to do exactly that a couple weekends ago.  I had been to Exeter, NH a few times, but had never really explored the area thoroughly.  I fell in love with the town, the surrounding small towns, and the gorgeous farm houses and surrounding countryside during my three days there.
