Scott Farm Orchard

Visiting an orchard…America’s greatest fall tradition…  My favorite orchard that I have been to thus far in New England is Scott Farm Orchard in Dummerston, Vermont.  It is so beautiful with it’s many barns, quiet little stream, stone walls, and apple trees.  It is quite peaceful and quiet each time I have been, with only a few folk coming in and out of the store with their arms full of apples and cider.

Weekly Roundup

Today I am off to Vermont for a day trip full of fall foliage, pumpkins, and apples.  My plan is to sip apple cider, eat doughnuts, and bring back a car-full of pumpkins and gourds!  I hope all of you are finding uber-autumnal things to do this season!

Scottish Countryside

I’m going to take you back to April now for a continuation of my Europe trip (see my last post from Scotland here).  Our first night in Scotland was spent at the gorgeous Dalmahoy Hotel in the Scottish countryside.  Located just outside of Edinburgh, the Dalmahoy is an old country house built in the 1720s, sitting on an estate now owned by the 22nd Earl of Morton.  It is now a country club and hotel, with a large added wing where the rooms are located.

Colors in the Whites

Last weekend my family and I headed up to the Whites for some much needed leaf-peeping!  This fall, the color has been moving very slowly, and I was eager to finally get a glimpse of almost-peak foliage up north.  The White Mountains, while not the largest in the world, have a magic to them that I love.  The red maples mix with the dark pine trees so beautifully…everything pops in October!  While driving down the highway, I noticed a lovely footbridge over the river, and I begged us to stop for some photos.  Everything was so perfect, and colorful, and the water was shallow enough that I could wade out into the middle with my Hunter boots on!

Apples, Doughnuts, and Cider!

It has been perfectly fall-like around here lately!  Pumpkins decorate the house, leaves are starting to turn for reals, and orchards up and down the state are ready for apple picking!  My family and I went to Gould Hill Farm in Contoocook, NH  because we heard they make killer cider doughnuts on the weekends.  We were not at all disappointing.  The doughnuts were small, so we grabbed two dozen, as well as some hot apple cider.
