My trip to Basin Harbor in Vergennes, VT, on the banks of Lake Champlain, was an absolute blast! Basin Harbor had been on my radar for a while now, so when the opportunity to go presented itself, I leaped. I had always imagined it as this beautiful, peaceful, all-American summer camp where multi generation families come and spend weeks at a time ever summer. A very “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel goes to the Catskills episode” type feel…
It felt exactly that way! I was so happy. It almost felt a bit like I was privy to this amazingly kept secret that had been in families for generations, and now, finally, I had arrived!
The first thing I noticed upon arrival was how kind and welcoming the staff was, and how eager they were to please and be as helpful as possible. They made sure I had everything I needed, and even made sure Carson had everything he needed. It was fun to bring my puppy along with me. They have a few dog friendly cabins on the property, so you will see many dogs around, including the resort goldens, Piper and Rosie, who are just the sweetest.
Basin Harbor is a mecca. Everything you need is right there, and every activity you can imagine is at your finger tips. The place is still family run, since the 1800s, and the present generation is always looking for new events and activities to bring to the resort. There is swimming, sailing, paddle boarding, canoeing, water skiing, tubing, boat cruises, croquet, tennis, and so much more!
The restaurants on property are all amazing. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner at their fine dining room, Ardelia’s, a Lobster feast on the North Dock, a lunch buffet with ice cream bar at the Ranger Room, and an all-american hot dog lunch at the Red Mill. And every morning their is an amazing breakfast buffet in the dining room with everything you can imagine to eat…
We took a tour of the lake on the boat cruise, which took us to the sight of a ship wreck, past amazing cliffs on the NY side of the lake, and over to see a bald eagle’s nest, where we saw baby bald eagles!
My favorite time of the trip was taking a virgin strawberry daiquiri onto the swimming dock, where I relaxed and swam, diving off the floating trampolines and soaking in the sun.
This may be one of my new favorite places in New England! I loved every minute, and could not have been more relaxed. Thank you Basin Harbor for the wonderful stay!!
