Some of you may know that I did a poll on Instagram recently asking why it was you follow me. My biggest following is on IG, so whenever I need feedback from you guys, I usually turn to polls on instastories for advice and suggestions. I was very surprises to find out that more than 70% follow me for the lifestyle, not the fashion, and wanted more lifestyle content on my IG and blog! I’m a little shocked, but not really…after all I put more emphasis on the lifestyle aspect than anything else, but it did conjure up some questions for myself.
I’ve done a lot of thinking about, and figuring out what you guys really mean by “lifestyle”…or even what I mean by “lifestyle” for that matter…
When I think of a “lifestyle blogger” they are extremely multifaceted. They share recipes, gift guides, makeup tutorials, product suggestions, tablescapes, book and movie recommendations, playlists, entertaining tips, interior design plans, flower arranging, diy projects, etc…and to be honest, that’s not me… and I don’t think that’s what you guys expect me to be, since that’s not what I have been for the past five years or what I have built up a good following with…
So what does “lifestyle” mean then?…
I think the best was to look at it would be to add a couple words to it: New England Lifestyle.
So what does that mean?
I think the point of my blog and social media has always been, since the very beginning, about showing you guys a glimpse of the New England life. While sometimes romanticized… we are pretty normal people when it comes down to it…there is truth behind what I post. Yes, there are literally adorable historic houses EVERYWHERE…yes, the coast is gorgeous here…yes there are always kayakers out on the lakes all summer…and yes! we have golden retrievers in ABUNDANCE! This is why New England holds such a dear place in my heart…because it is just that charming and wonderful, no matter which New England state you are in. That is why I started this blog, to share that with you.
With that being said, I think what “lifestyle” really means to my readers, and to me, is: life in New England. That is where my focus will be.
Don’t worry, I won’t be getting rid of the fashion anytime soon. I think that New England fashion is a big part of the charm, and adds so much to a photo. I am always getting readers asking me where I got my jacket, or where they can buy my shoes. I will continue to link, and share my fashion, but my aim is to not make it the focus of my IG and blog, as I certainly don’t consider myself a “fashion blogger”…I think my style is too down-to-earth for that…I’m more of a rubber boot and wax jacket girl…I hardly wear heels, little black dresses, or earrings…haha! But once again, New Englander’s style is a big part of the picture, and I won’t be moving too far away from it, and will continue to make it a big part of what I do…it just won’t be the focus.
Instead, I hope to bring you more travel guides, adventure posts, restaurant recommendations, and product that goes well with all of those things! Plus…you might see a recipe or two once in a while! I have a lot of excitement and hope for the future of my blog and social media!
Thanks for all the feedback you give, and for being loyal and wonderful followers, and I am going to keep pushing down the track that is true to me, and that you guys want! XO
