It’s been ages since I’ve been out berry picking, and the strawberries are finally ripe in New Hampshire. I’m always antsy for the first fruit to come in season every year so I can eat the freshest and most flavorful produce. Buying them at the grocery store out of season…there is definitely a marked difference in taste. I like to try getting my fruit local at a nearby farm or market. Yesterday we picked the strawberries from a farm not far from where I live in one of my favorite towns of Hollis, NH. This weekend I hope to make my way to a couple farmers markets for more fresh produce!
I recently purchased my hat from Barbour, and I have fallen in love with it. You probably saw it on me in (this) post. I like the fact that I can turn the brim up and it becomes a completely different hat with a different feel and look. It’s like having two hats in one! I don’t know if I quite needed it to keep the sun out of my eyes on this overcast day, but it helped keep me dry when the clouds suddenly opened up and began spitting on us as we finished up our picking.
By the way, the fun little basket is actually called a strawberry basket, and it was designed specifically for picking strawberries. I believe its odd shape’s purpose is to prevent the strawberries from crushing while inside!
Now with three pounds of strawberries sitting on my kitchen counter, the question is what can be made with them?! After a little pinterest searching for ideas and inspiration, I’ve decided to come up with a Fourth of July dessert which I will be making this weekend…and eating…most likely this weekend before the Fourth even comes around. Haha!
One of my favorite finds of the season was my ruffled J. Crew top! Ruffles are in in a huge way this year, which I very much appreciate because of the feminine quality. I’m so sorry I didn’t get a post out sooner featuring this top, as it is almost sold out online at the moment! But there are still a few sizes at Nordstrom, and check out a few similar styles below!
Skirt: J. Crew Factory (old, similar style here) / Shirt: J. Crew / Shoes: Soludos / Hat: Barbour (found a similar Barbour hat here)
