As most of you are probably aware, if you follow me on Instagram, I am somewhat of a hot chocolate fiend. It is 100% my coffee, and I have a cup of it nearly every day…though my New Years resolutions dictate that I cut down…twice a week might be better…
While I asked everyone on IG if they would like to know my recipe, the truth is…I sort of eyeball everything. I’ve had years of experience making it, and I know roughly how much of everything I use. So in order to provide a recipe, I measured everything, and I think I’ve come up with an accurate representation of what I do night after night. Enjoy!
Julia’s Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup of 2% or Whole Milk
1/4 cup of Heavy Cream
a pinch of Kosher Salt (this is NOT optional)
a dash of Vanilla Extract
1/4 cup of Milk Chocolate (well chopped)
1/4 cup of Semi-Sweet Chocolate (well chopped)
1/4 cup of Dark Chocolate (well chopped)
Whipped Cream for topping
Directions:
Yields one large mug or two small mugs.
In a small saucepan, mix together the milk, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla, and heat over a medium/low heat till it is almost to the point of a boil (there will be little bubbles around the edge), it will take between 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and add all the chopped chocolate. Let sit for another 2 minutes without stirring. After the 2 minutes, whisk briskly till it is creamy and smooth. If necessary, reheat over a medium/low heat, whisking constantly. Serve immediately with whipped cream on top. Enjoy!
