When all the destinations for my Europe trip were settled, and we knew exactly what cities we were going to visit, the planning on what to do in each location commenced. From the get-go, I knew the top place I wanted to eat in Paris was going to be Angelina. I’m not a coffee drinker, and so the substitute for me has always been hot chocolate. Therefore, whenever I go somewhere new, I always look up the best hot chocolate spots while everyone else looks up the best coffee spots. For years now I have heard of the miracle that is Angelina, the place that serves the best hot chocolate in the world…it didn’t take much arm-twisting to convince me to go to a place like that!
Day two in Paris required a lot of walking, and a lot of typical tourist things to see and do. We saw Notre-Dame in the morning, and then hopped on the metro for a quick ride down to the Jardin des Tuileries, where we walked through the long row of hedges to Angelina for hot chocolate. I got a little too excited once I had a menu in my hand, and ordered hot chocolate, plus the pastry breakfast of rolls, croissants, jam, and chestnut butter. I should mention that we had already eaten breakfast in our apartment that morning…haha!
This probably has to go down in history as the best breakfast I’ve ever eaten. I can’t say enough good things about the sweet, yet subtle chestnut butter on flakey croissant. AND I can say with absolute confidence that when they say “world’s best hot chocolate”…they speak the truth…
After a very satisfying petit dejeuner, we headed back through the garden toward the Champs-Élysées. Our goal: the Arc de Triomphe. It was a much longer walk than I expected, but I loved every minute of it! It was bustling with tourists and locals, and lined with clothing shops and cafes galore! The Arc de Triomphe was gorgeous, and the view from the top was incredible!
And, of course, no trip to Paris is complete without a stop at the Eiffel Tower…
We finished the day at the Jardin du Luxembourg, a trip to a chocolate shop, and dinner at a streetside bistro. It was sadly our last full day in Paris, but what an incredible one!
